Goebel appointed to Critical Area Commission

Nov 21, 2014

 

Gov. Martin O’Malley recently appointed Easton resident Charles Paul Goebel to the Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays.

 

Goebel was nominated by the Talbot County Council for the position and is in process for confirmation by the Maryland Senate to serve a four-year term as the county’s representative to the commission.

 

The commission was created by the Critical Area Act of 1984 to oversee the development and implementation of local land-use programs. The Act identifies the critical area as all land within 1,000 feet of Maryland’s tidal waters and tidal wetlands including the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Coastal Bays and their tidal tributaries.

Architect Charles Goebel and remodeler George Combs designed this project with a radical transformation in mind. The original home, a low-slung brick ranch, seemed at odds with its site — better fitted for a suburban street than the wooded banks of a tide-water creek. Now, reimagined from the foundation up, it’s hard to discern even a trace of the original.
