PROJECTS

ABOUT

Charles Paul Goebel, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
Principal, Charles Paul Goebel, Architect, LTD.

Prior to founding his award-winning firm in 1998, Charles held leadership positions with distinguished architectural and planning firms designing a wide range of residential and commercial projects. This experience combined with his passion for designing fine homes led him to open his own residentially-focused architecture and planning firm on Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore. The exceptional natural beauty and vernacular traditions of the Shore captivate and inspire him.

Projects range from elegant waterfront estates and casual weekend retreats to historically-sensitive renovations and additions. Charles has developed an expertise designing for sensitive coastal areas and in navigating the complex matrix of planning, zoning and environmental regulations. Although residential commissions have been a constant throughout his career, he selectively takes on non-residential commissions where the client’s commitment to quality is paramount.

Charles works very closely with his clients, their builders and craftspeople to create enduring architecture – to be cherished for generations.

Process

Concept Design

Our design begins with a conversation. We listen intently to our client’s goals and dreams to establish design intentions and direction. Read More

This begins a highly-interactive process founded on careful site analysis (topography, views, sun orientation, tree/plant cover, planning, zoning & environmental constraints) that informs our collaborative design of the spaces, buildings and site improvements for the property. Our personalized approach begins with freehand drawings that are later transcribed to computer.

Construction Documents

Plan the work. Work the plan. Construction documents are the detailed drawings necessary to obtain permits, Read More

solicit bids and guide the builder – they comprise the greatest portion of our overall time and effort. Structural and systems engineering are addressed. Carefully crafted and thorough drawings ensure the design is clearly communicated to the builder.

Design Development

Details. Details. Details. Now the design is refined, elaborated and resolved in greater detail. Read More

Definitive architectural plans and elevations (views) are prepared to document the advancing client/architect dialogue. Regulatory issues are fully addressed. The design is shared with a builder to develop a thoroughly-considered budget price. We equip our clients to make informed and timely decisions: producing an architectural design they understand and love – that’s achievable within a budget meeting their expectations.

Construction

Stay The Course. An architect’s important contributions do not end with an approved building permit – construction can drift off-course. Read More

Our essential involvement continues throughout construction – we are our client’s eyes and ears – we provide guidance to the building team, clarify details and address questions as they arise. We employ web-based technologies to communicate with our far-flung clients and remote building sites.
